Music, sports, politics, and whatever else strikes me throughout the day.
Fuck, my internal clock is all over the place right now, going from Eastern to Pacific in basically a day, spending six days out there, then turning around and coming right back in one straight shot. Well, having seen a whole slew of festival sets this week, as I was scrounging through the music on my phone to find stuff I hadn’t listened to in a while, I ran across this song, which to me just screams early-day opener.
Edit: It is also probably worth noting that this is a cover of The Monochrome Set.
…and I want to write something about it, but I’m just not sure what to say. I guess I should thank all the awesome people I met at The Gorge. You all made one man’s solo journey across this country more enjoyable than I could have imagined, so thank you, even though in all likelihood none of you will ever see this. The beauty of that venue, and the Pacific Northwest in general, is just something to behold. But I think what sticks with me the most is how nearly every act I saw brought their A-game. There were virtually no duds. I think there really is something special about performing in front of that magnificent vista that demands a certain level of effort and commitment on the part of the artist. Sasquatch may just have to become an annual tradition.

…unless they highlight one of my favorite athletes. Justin Verlander is the only pitcher in MLB history to throw a one-hit or fewer shutout in interleague play with at least 12 Ks. He’s done it twice. He was also two outs away from becoming the first pitcher to toss multiple interleague no-hitters. We’ve been saying it in Michigan for years now, but with Verlander, any given start could be magical. Hopefully the Tigers can feed off of this performance and get working.

Well, it’s been an entire day since I found The Steelwells, and already I can’t remember how I came across them. No matter, because when I listen to “El Capitan,” I find that I’m not overly concerned with how I discovered it.
I would advise that you get in on the ground floor with Cheers Elephant right now, because a band this good won’t stay under 10,000 scrobbles for long.
These two photos we came across this morning (thanks, Reddit) depict Jewish prisoners during the liberation of Dachau getting revenge on their Nazi guards.
Above, a mass of dead or dying German guards lay at the base of a white wall. A few remain standing, but were shot dead moments after this photograph was taken. In the second photo, two inmates prepare to kill a fallen SS guard with a shovel.
Okay, I’m pretty excited to share this artist. I’ve been listening to The Sheepdogs for about a week now after discovering them while vetting acts to see at Sasquatch, and frankly, I’m embarrassed that I didn’t know about them sooner. They were the band that won the contest to be the first unsigned act to grace the cover of Rolling Stone and were definitely deserving of the honor. Leave it to the Canadians to perfect Southern rock.

“Young Folks” performed as a medley with “Second Chance” was honestly one of the best concert moments I’ve experienced. It was way more intense than one might expect.
Holy fuck, I cannot wait for this.
